Our Core Program: Adaptive Equipment Grants

We want to make it as easy as possible for families, donors, and supporters to understand how The Gwen Does Stuff Project works. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.

Gwen Does Stuff Project

What does “medically fragile” mean?

A medically fragile child is one who has significant health challenges—such as a chronic illness, disability, or medical condition—that requires ongoing care or support. This can include mobility limitations, medical devices like oxygen or feeding tubes, or developmental delays.

If you’re unsure whether your child qualifies, reach out—we’re happy to talk it through.

How do I apply for a grant?

We’re currently finalizing our online grant application. In the meantime, please email info@gwendoesstuff.com with a short note about your child, what equipment or support you’re looking for, and where you’re located. We’ll guide you from there.

Is there a cost to apply?

No. Our support is 100% free to families. We exist to ease your burden—not add to it.

How are families chosen for support?

We consider need, timing, and available funding. We prioritize families who demonstrate financial or accessibility barriers to outdoor experiences, and we aim to serve as many children as our resources allow.

What kind of equipment do you provide?

We fund a range of adaptive outdoor and recreational gear, including:

  • All-terrain strollers and wheelchairs
  • Mobility ramps
  • Pool lifts and flotation devices
  • Adaptive swings
  • Oxygen-compatible hiking gear

If you’re not sure what your child needs, we can help you explore options.

Can I donate equipment instead of money?

Yes! If you have new or gently used adaptive equipment, email us at info@gwendoesstuff.com with photos and details. We’ll let you know if it can be matched with a family.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. The Gwen Does Stuff Project is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
EIN: 33-3469169

Where does my donation go?

Every dollar goes directly to helping local families. We’re entirely volunteer-run, so your support funds equipment, family outreach, and safe, joyful outdoor experiences.
